Oven gloves sewing pattern

Instructions

Thank you for purchasing the Grinlow Studio oven gloves sewing pattern! Double ended gloves are great for anyone who loves to cook, making baking a doddle and ensuring burnt wrists are a thing of the past… happy sewing!

Materials and equipment

0.5m fabric for outer (heavy weight cottons and canvases in natural materials are ideal)
0.25m fabric for lining (similar fabric to the above)
1.5m cotton bias binding in contrasting colour
0.5m heat proof wadding
Coordinating thread

Cutting instructions

Cut 2 main body in fabric
Cut 2 glove facing in fabric
Cut 2 glove facing in lining
Cut 1 main body in wadding
Cut 1 glove facing in wadding

Notes

Seam allowances are 1cm unless otherwise indicated

How to make

1. With wrong sides together, sandwich the wadding in between the two main body fabric pieces and baste together within the seam allowance.

2. With wrong sides together, sandwich wadding between glove facing in fabric and glove facing in lining and baste together. Repeat for other glove facing.

3. Top stitch each basted section to create a quilt effect.

4. Encase raw edges of assembled glove facing in bias binding, WST, and top stitch in place.

5. With lining and main fabric RST, baste glove facings to the main body around outer edge. Stitch within the seam allowance to secure.

6. Make the loop for hanging the gloves by folding and top stitching a 3” strip of bias binding.

7. Encase outer edge of assembled oven gloves within bias binding, pin at regular intervals following curves. Insert raw edges of loop into binding at centre of gloves as shown.

8. Make sure when pinning the binding in place that there is an overlap at the adjoining end. Stitch in place all the way around, backstitching over loop to strengthen. Stop stitching 2cms before you reach the join and tuck one side of the bias binding under the other. The upper side should be folded over so no raw edges show.
